Announcing: 14th International Choir Competition Zadar
The 14th Zadar International Choir Competition will be held from 22 to 25 May 2025. This event grew out of a long-standing tradition of choral singing in Zadar, whose main proponents are primarily the Croatian Musical Singing Society Zoranić, founded in 1908, and the Croatian Choir Festival, which was held in Zadar from 1973 until the beginning of the Homeland War.
It was on these foundations that the International Choir Competition was founded in 1997, an event of a musical and competitive nature that has since then played the role of a follower, bearer and promoter of the tradition of amateur choral singing at the local, national and international levels.
Amateur choirs from various parts of Europe and the world participate in the Competition, which, with their performances in the competitive part and informal performances in the city squares, revive and enrich the musical and cultural offer of the city of Zadar.
The event will be opened on Thursday, May 22nd at 8 pm in the Church of St. Chrysogonus by the Mixed Choir Chorus angelicus from Varaždin with soloists, organist Tea Kulaš, pianist Filip Šopar, and soprano Klara Blažunaj. The ensemble will be conducted by Luka Šopar.
The competition part of the program will take place on Friday, May 23rd and Saturday, May 24th, and 10 choirs will participate:
Vokalna skupina Aurora, Ljubljana, Slovenija – dir. Janja Dragan Gombač
Sveučilišni zbor Haxhi Zeka, Peć, Kosovo – dir. Hysen Nimani

The choirs will be judged by an international jury consisting of Brett Scott, Cristiano Dell'Oste, Franz Jochum and Viktorija Čop, headed by president Jasenko Ostojić. The regular competition program will be followed by informal promenade performances that will briefly fill the streets of Zadar, specifically the Narodni trg, Forum and Sea Organ with joy and music!
On Saturday, May 24th at 8 pm at the Church of St. Chrysogonus, the most exciting part of the competition will certainly follow, when the three choirs with the highest number of points will compete for the Grand Prize of the City of Zadar in the amount of 3,000 euros in the grand finale.
On Sunday, May 25th at 11 am in the Cathedral of St. Anastasia, a Eucharistic celebration will be held, which will be joined by interested choirs who have expressed a desire to once again share the joy of song with others.
